Hello All,
Great that you have found your way to the LSA web site, and to
the students' corner, where you will be able to find essential
links to leisure studies funding, job opportunities, events...
I am your LSA student representative, Paula Lökman, a PhD
student at the Centre for Cultural Research in Sport, School
of Human and Sport Sciences in Roehampton University, London.
My current PhD thesis is looking at 'embodiment' in the context
of leisure sport, and the study is conducted on female beginners'
experiences in the world of a Japanese self-defence sport, Aikido.
Before that I have completed an MA in Adult Education including
levels 1 & 2 in Leisure and Tourism Studies in the Finnish
University Network for Tourism Studies. Enough about me, however
- this is your forum to develop further: discuss, use the information
gathered here and most importantly participate and make suggestions.
As a leisure studies student I warmly recommend
the membership with the LSA. The annual conference offers an
opportunity for students to get their work out into the wider
world by presenting their papers in a friendly atmosphere and
the Newsletter is a great means to keep up-to-date with the current
tendencies, trends, debates and hot topics in leisure studies.
And more over, student contributions to the newsletter are very
welcomed!
The annual dissertation prizes give students
recognition for their work and a small sum of cash for their
efforts. Keep your eyes also on the forthcoming "small bids"
funding opportunity that will be announced on this web site shortly.
The purpose of this website is to involve
you, leisure studies student, in the development of our discipline,
through the participation in the LSA activities. Whether you
are a full-time or part-time student of leisure, sport, tourism,
recreation, the arts, heritage, lifestyle or play, a post-grad,
under-grad or FE student, a home or international student, your
comments and advice are longed-for in order for the association
to fulfil your needs and meet our interests.
By joining the LSA and letting us know
what you want we can together create a lively community of leisure
studies students.

Best wishes,
Paula
