LSA 2008 conference sessions and accommodation are located in in Liverpool town centre near Liverpool Lime Street Train Station.

Keys will be issued at the 24 hour reception desk of Unite Grand Central.

For arrivers by train into Liverpool Lime Street Train Station:      
After alighting from your train please make your way to the left hand side entrance which is located past platforms 7 & 8. Exit the station out onto Skelhorne Street directly ahead of you and proceed along Skelhorne Street. Turn left into Copperas Lane for about 100 yards to the 24 hour reception of Unite Grand Central where you will collect your keys.

Continental Breakfasts will be delivered to the kitchen areas of each of the flats each morning.

From accommodation to conference sessions  Exit Unite Grand Central (A) onto Hawke Street and then turn left onto Brownlow Hill, then turn right onto Clarence Street and at the next set of traffic lights go left on Mount Pleasant about 150 yards to the John Foster Building (B) directly opposite the Feathers Hotel.

PARKING     

RESIDENTIAL delegates arriving by car can park in NCP car park, Skelhorne Street at a cost of £13.00 per 24 hours.
NON-RESIDENTIAL delegates arriving by car can park in NCP car park located at the bottom of Mount Pleasant at a cost of £6.00 per day


General information about getting to Liverpool . . .

By Air

  • Manchester Airport serves a wide variety of destinations and is a 90 minute train journey from Liverpool.
  • Liverpool John Lennon Airport is located in the suburb of Speke, 8 miles from the City Centre. It has regular scheduled flights within the U.K. and mainland Europe. Outside the arrivals area there are bus stops and taxis to the city centre.

By Train (Rail)    get specific schedules on www.nationalrail.co.uk

  • Trains are available from major towns and cities into Liverpool Lime Street Station which is located in the heart of the city centre.
  • From London to Liverpool Liverpool Lime Street Station the journey takes about two-and-a-half hours, and there is a train about every hour.
  • From Manchester Airport to Liverpool Lime Street Station there is a direct train every hour at peak times (around 06:30-19:30).

By Bus (Coach)    

  • National Express www.nationalexpress.com, the U.K.'s largest scheduled coach company, has a bus station a short walk from Liverpool City Centre.

By Road       From the M6 the city is reached via the M58, M56 & M62 motorways. Liverpool city centre is approximately 45 minutes from Chester, Manchester and North Wales; just over 1 hour from Blackpool, the Lake District, Yorkshire Moors and the Peak District National Parks; just over 4 hours from London.

To Liverpool Lime Street Train Station from Manchester Airport

By Car      Head northeast on Domestic approach and at the roundabout take the 4th exit out onto Outwood Lane. Merge onto M56 via the ramp to Chester / Warrington / Birmingham / M6 / Preston / Liverpool / M62. At junction 9 exit onto M6 toward Preston / Liverpool / M62 / Warrington then at junction 21a exit onto M62 toward Liverpool / Southport / Warrington / (North) / M57. Continue on A5080 / Bowring Park Road and follow A5080, followed by A5047 / Edge Lane Dr. Continue to follow A5047 and turn left at Towerlands Street. Continue to follow A5047 until you arrive at Lime Street.

By Taxi     It's easy to take a taxi to Manchester Airport or arrange for one to collect you on arrival. Taxi ranks are to be found just outside all three Terminals, making it simple to find and arrange a cab. How much will it cost? For journeys outside Manchester, there is a published tariff of maximum fares. This is displayed at taxi ranks, and your driver will advise you of the fare before beginning the journey.

Taxi Buses      Airportcarz offers a Taxibus service that operates at all three terminals. Journeys by Taxibus must be pre-booked at the Airportcarz desk inside the arrivals hall in any of the terminals. For more information please call: +44 (0) 161 489 5577

Booking Your Own Taxi      You may, of course, use any other taxi service of your choice, provided it's booked in advance. It's advisable to meet your driver inside the arrivals hall as waiting restrictions apply on the roads around the terminals.

By Coach (National Express)     A large number of coach services operate daily from The Station, the airport's integrated transport hub, linking Manchester Airport with major UK cities. Coach travel is a cost-effective way of getting to and from the airport, and most coaches are equipped with reclining seats, air-conditioning and onboard toilet and washroom facilities.

Buying COACH Tickets at Manchester Airport      The National Express ticket desk is open daily at The Station from 7am to 10pm. However to guarantee a seat it's advisable to book your coach ticket in advance.

By Rail     The Station, Manchester Airport's integrated transport hub, offers fast and frequent train services linking the airport with over 100 destinations across the North of England and beyond. Up to 6 trains an hour link the airport to Manchester Piccadilly station in the city centre, where you can connect to fast rail services countrywide.
Once you arrive at The Station, it's easy to reach the terminal buildings using the Skylink moving walkways. If you're flying into Manchester Airport you can book your onward rail tickets online and collect them from the self-service ticket machines in the baggage reclaim halls. Alternatively, you can buy your tickets from the booking office in The Station.

To Liverpool Lime Street Train Station from Liverpool John Lennon Airport

By Car Head West and go through 1 roundabout. Take the 2nd exit onto Speke Hall Ave and go through 1 roundabout. Turn left at A561 / Speke Road and continue to follow A561. Go through 1 roundabout and turn left at A561 / Dingle Lane. Turn right at A561 / Park Road and continue to follow A561. Continue on A5038 / Great George Street and continue to follow A5038. Continue onto Renshaw Street and make a slight left at St George's Pl. Then make a sharp right at Roe Street and slight right at A5039 / St John's Lane. Continue to follow A5039 until you arrive at Lime Street.

By Bus The Bus and Coach stops are located at the front of the Airport Terminal Building. For more information on bus times please visit www.traveline.org.uk or ring Traveline on 0871 200 22 33.
Airlink 500 : John Lennon Airport - Liverpool City Centre City Centre stops include Norton St Coach Station (for National Express connections) and Lime Street Station (for local, regional and mainline rail connections). Operates every 20 minutes, Monday to Friday daytimes, and every half an hour during evenings and weekends. The one-way fare for adults is £2.50, and only £1.25 for children.

  • Liverpool South Parkway - Liverpool John Lennon Airport (Bus Link)
    Liverpool South Parkway is the main train station which serves Liverpool John Lennon Airport and offers links to Liverpool City centre, Warrington, Manchester and the Midlands on City Line trains, and Bootle, Formby and Southport on Northern Line trains.
  • Liverpool South Parkway is accessible by taxi or by using the following bus services:
  • 80A Arriva bus operates every 7 to 8 minutes Mondays to Saturdays in the daytimes, and every 30 minutes in the evenings and on Sundays.
  • 86A Arriva bus operates every 5 minutes Mondays to Saturdays in the daytimes, and every 10 minutes in the evenings and on Sundays.
  • N86 Arriva bus operates every 30 minutes between midnight and 5am, Monday to Sunday.

Liverpool Lime Street Station. Rail services from Liverpool Lime Street connect the city of Liverpool to the UK's main rail network.
Connect to Liverpool Lime Street using the AirLink 500 bus, which runs from Liverpool John Lennon Airport every 20 minutes Monday to Friday daytime, or every 30 minutes in the evenings and at weekends, or take a taxi.

Liverpool Central - Hunts Cross (Merseyrail train service)
Liverpool Central - Brunswick - St. Michaels - Aigburth - Cressington - Liverpool South Parkway - Hunts Cross. Operates at 14, 29, 44, 59 minutes past the hour. Journey time: 15 minutes. Alight at Liverpool South Parkway or Hunts Cross for bus services to Liverpool John Lennon Airport.

Save time at the Train Station - Buy Your Rail Tickets @ LJLA! It is now possible to purchase tickets for journeys on the national rail network from Liverpool John Lennon Airport's automated ticket machine, located on Level 1 of the Terminal Building, adjacent to the Information Desk. Please note that these tickets do not yet include the cost of transport to the train station.


To Liverpool Lime Street Train Station from Southport

By Car      Head southwest on A565 / Lord Street Boulevards toward A570 / Albert Square. Continue to follow A565 and go through 5 roundabouts. Turn left at A565 / Liverpool Road and continue to follow A565. Make a slight left at Millers Bridge and continue on A5058 / Balliol Road. Turn right at A567 / Stanley Road, and right again at A59/Scotland Road. Continue to follow A59 and at the roundabout take the 1st exit onto Old Haymarket. Continue on A5039 / St John's Lane and follow A5039 until you reach Lime Street.
