Whatever happened to the LEISURE SOCIETY?
Critical and multidisciplinary [retro]spectives
July 3-5, 2007 Hosted by The Chelsea School
University of Brighton, Eastbourne UK

Venue ~ Eastbourne

Described as the "sunshine coast" and snuggled into the shelter of the imposing South Downs, Eastbourne has an unspoilt beauty, an open elegance and a relaxed lifestyle. The town's attractions include a pier, a three-mile promenade, a boating lake, fine parks and gardens, a new marina, and a sweep of super-clean beach complete with traditional bandstand where you can hear anything from jazz to classics for free.

Behind the elegant Georgian buildings of the seafront you'll find a friendly, unstuffy town of easygoing charm and broad leafy avenues. With the town's demographic now swinging towards the 16-36s, there's a sharp new vibrancy in the air and Eastbourne is rapidly shaking off its media image as a place for older people.

There's a great mix of shops, a thriving arts and music scene, a positive explosion of new restaurants, bars and clubs, and a wealth of leisure opportunities.

The Hillbrow campus is situated in the Meads area on the Western edge of Eastbourne. It is 15 minutes walk from the town centre and railway station and 5 minutes walk to both the beach and downland.

The Leisure Studies Association is a Registered Charity No. 294997
