Festivals and
Events: Beyond
Economic Impacts

6~8July, 2005

 hosted by the
Centre for Festival and Event Management

Festivals and Events are seen to be key tools for urban regeneration and reviving and refocusing urban and rural communities. Much of the research to date in this area has concentrated on the economic power of events and the monetary value they can bring into a locale, city or region. The focus of LSA 2005 Festivals and Events: Beyond Economic Impacts will be on the wider impacts of events and how they can have a social or cultural impact on a destination.

Keynote and Parallel session presentations by academics, researchers and practitioners will address the following main conference themes

Festivals / Events and Leisure ~ role, government involvement, policy, planning and management
Social impact of Festivals and Events ~ young people, education, community cultural festivals and events, social inclusion and access issues
Cultural impact of Festivals and Events ~ local and national identity, widening access, adding to cultural life of destination, cultural diversity, interaction with other arts forms and creative industries
Festivals and Events ~ Destination Image and Marketing
Festival and Event Evaluation Studies
Case Studies of Local, National and International Festivals and Events

Please contact the chair Jane Ali-Knight j.ail-knight@napier.ac.uk for the possibility of space available on the programme up to 31 May, 2005.

Submissions will be accepted according to Guidelines for Proposals.

Proposals are also invited for inclusion in LSA 2005 "OPEN STREAM" sessions
In addition to the main conference themes, proposals will be considered for a limited number of "open stream" presentations. The open stream of the conference is designed to encourage / enable conference participation for Members and others for whom the current year's theme is not within their particular area of interest, but have a contribution to make to leisure studies theory, methodology, policy and pedagogy. The open stream will thus offer a forum for research papers that engage with key debates in the development of the subject field of leisure studies in addition to critical issues emanating from specific leisure research projects.

Last but not least . . . A POST-GRADUATE OPEN SESSION is also being conducted. Click here for more details.
